Community Engagement
Provide a forum for members of the profession to engage more directly in partnership with our communities on issues of concern to them

Preferred Stakeholder Outcomes
1.1 Promote improved levels of mutual understanding between the profession and our communities
We need actions to achieve:
- a new framework for our members to engage more directly with our communities aboutsolutions to our emerging challenges – eg. environmental/climate change, demographic/population growth, infrastructure
- a higher degree of engagement by members of the general community directly with Engineers Australia members in informing themselves about how engineering can be used for community benefit and sustainable futures – eg. via accessible online channels
- more of our engineering champions interacting with the community on:
- the impact that engineering can have on amenity, security, prosperity and sustainability for the community at large, and
- how communities can use engineering to deliver beneficial solutions
1.2 Create partnerships for community engagement nationally and internationally
We need actions to achieve:
- more of our members across Australia contributing to partnerships with identified local communities and interest groups to assist them solve their issues of concern
- local government authorities and community interest groups putting more emphasis on sustainability and life cycle issues in local infrastructure development processes
- more engineers and engineering students preparing themselves and contributing to national and international community projects, in both ongoing and emergency circumstances
- national and international non-government organisations giving higher acknowledgement to the benefits which engineered solutions bring to communities
