Implementing our Strategic Plan
Engineers Australia is a complex and diverse organisation relying on the efforts of our office bearers, members, and staff, to achieve our overall vision.
This Strategic Plan provides a blueprint for the efforts of all members and staff over the five-year period 2010 to 2015. The general approach of an enduring set of broad strategies is deliberately presented this way. No group is expected to implement actions against all strategies.
Engineers Australia uses an integrated business cycle to give effect to its annual programs:
- Each November, Council considers a rolling ten-year financial plan to ensure affordability of known new and ongoing programs against anticipated membership subscriptions and other income
- At this time, Councillors, Division Committees and our national College Boards and interest groups are invited, in consultation with their respective staff Directors, to nominate their priority actions against relevant strategies in the Strategic Plan, indicating intended targets or outcomes to be achieved
- Each February, Council considers for adoption an annual Operational Plan encompassing all such planned actions, as a basis for committees to prepare their annual budget proposals
- Each May, Council considers the aggregate budget demand against the parameters of the ten-year financial plan, seeking amendment to the Operational Plan if necessary
- Each August, Council reviews the overall outcomes for the year against the key indicators for each Strategic Domain, and provide guidance where necessary in relation to emerging risks and opportunities for the next cycle
- At the end of each Quarter during the year, groups are invited to provide brief updates of progress towards the outcomes in their respective Operational Plans, for consolidation into a snapshot against each of our Strategic Domains to assist Council exercise due oversight
- An Annual Report is prepared for presentation at the AGM each November
