A Plan for Our Members

Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse association for engineers in Australia, and is one of the world’s most respected engineering associations.

Following a comprehensive 18-month period of consultation, this five-year Strategic Plan for 2010 - 2015 is provided to guide our volunteer office bearers and members and our staff as they strive to give effect to the objects and purposes of our Royal Charter.

As we contemplate the progress we have made under our last Strategic Plan, we are reminded of both our commitment of service to our profession and through that to our community, and of the professional and ethical standards to which we aspire.

We are grateful to all those members and others who participated in the various planning sessions held since May 2008, culminating in our major planning forum in July 2009. We are also grateful to all those members who responded to invitations to provide comment during the preparatory and draft plan stages.

The result is a new Strategic Plan which comprises 21 broad strategies across six Strategic Domains. To arrive at our intended strategies, we analysed in detail how we would wish our diverse range of stakeholders to support us. The results of this analysis are captured in the Appendix to this Plan to provide ongoing guidance for our many office-bearers and staff.

Our younger members represent the future of the engineering profession and the future of Engineers Australia as an organisation. The National Committee of Young Engineers Australia has reinforced the need for us to:

  • take a leading role in the community on issues such as climate change and sustainability
  • promote regulation of the profession nationally to strengthen the community’s assurance of the competence of engineering practitioners
  • find ways to bridge the knowledge gap between young engineers and senior engineers approaching retirement,
  • improve the support and recognition we give for the contribution of our volunteer members
  • make it as straightforward as possible for our volunteer members and our staff to make effective contributions to our efforts for the advancement of the profession

The Council, as the governing body of Engineers Australia, acting with the advice and counsel of the National Congress, has a responsibility to ensure that we continue to deliver maximum value and results on behalf of our members.

We encourage all our office bearers, members and staff to help us deliver this, your plan, over the next five years.
